2027 polls: APC denies zoning directive in Benue

The All Progressives Congress in Benue State has denied issuing any directive on zoning ahead of its primaries and the 2027 general elections, stating that reports of such arrangements across parts of the state are not approved by the party leadership.

The clarification was made on Friday through a statement released by the party’s publicity secretary, Benedict Yawe, who said the state leadership had not authorised any zoning process in any of the local government areas. He explained that any ongoing moves in that direction were being carried out without the knowledge or approval of the party’s State Working Committee.

The party urged members and stakeholders involved in such activities to stop immediately and wait for an official position from the state secretariat. It added that any political steps taken ahead of the primaries must follow the party’s constitution and laid-down procedures.

According to the statement, political discussions and consultations across the 23 local government areas must involve recognised party leaders, including designated pointmen and local government chairmen, to ensure order and unity within the party.

The leadership also raised concern over reports that some groups had already begun zoning talks in certain areas, warning that such actions could create confusion and division if not properly guided by the party’s structure.

The party maintained that decisions regarding zoning and other preparations for the 2027 elections would be communicated officially when the time is right, urging members to remain calm and follow due process.

This development comes as political activities gradually build up in Benue State ahead of the next general elections, with party members positioning themselves while awaiting clear directives from the leadership.
