Gunmen Abduct Delta LG Chairman, Shoot One person

Gunmen on Friday evening abducted the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area in Delta State, Bright Abeke, during an attack that left one person injured and caused fear among residents.

The incident happened around 7pm at a hotel located on Owumi Road in Sapele, where the attackers stormed the area and began shooting to scare people away before taking the council boss to an unknown location. Witnesses said the assailants, numbering about 15, arrived in a Range Rover and two other vehicles and moved straight to their target.

The attack came less than a day after reports of threats by suspected gunmen in the community, raising fresh concerns about security in the area. During the operation, a local vigilante member identified as Ufuoma was shot and later taken to a nearby hospital, although his condition was not confirmed at the time of reporting.

Following the abduction, security operatives moved into action and blocked major roads leading in and out of Sapele as part of efforts to track the kidnappers and secure the chairman’s release. The police confirmed the incident and said special units had been deployed to handle the situation.


Authorities also stated that steps were being taken to ensure the victim is rescued safely while those responsible for the attack are arrested. The development has added to growing worries over insecurity in parts of the state, especially with recent reports of threats and attacks in the area.
