Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai appeared before the Kaduna State High Court on Monday as his trial resumed over allegations brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

He arrived at the court premises in Kaduna, where he was seen moving through a crowded corridor filled with supporters, lawyers, and other observers. Shortly before entering the courtroom, he spoke briefly with an associate about the upcoming national convention of the African Democratic Congress scheduled for Tuesday, showing that he remains involved in political activities despite the ongoing case.

El-Rufai is standing trial alongside another defendant, Amadu Sule, over several charges, including abuse of office, fraud, and actions said to have given unfair advantage. In a separate case before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, he is also facing multiple counts linked to alleged financial crimes involving large sums of money in naira and dollars.

The former governor has denied all allegations against him. His legal challenges began after his return to Nigeria from Egypt in February 2026. He was first held by the EFCC and later transferred to the ICPC. At one point, he was released briefly on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial before returning to custody.
The Federal High Court had earlier fixed April 14 for the hearing of his bail application, which falls on the same day as the ADC convention. Meanwhile, the ADC has claimed that his prosecution is politically motivated, a position that has been rejected by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
