On Thursday in Ikeja, Lagos State, governorship aspirant Olajide Adediran, widely known as Jandor, announced his withdrawal from the 2027 Lagos governorship contest. He made this known while addressing party members, leaders of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, and his supporters at Liberty House in Adeniyi Jones.

Adediran said his decision followed recent political developments that took place shortly after he obtained his nomination forms. He referred to a meeting involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, which later led to public support for Hamzat’s candidacy.

He explained that he had earlier made it clear that he would follow the political direction of the President. Based on that position and the latest endorsement, he chose to step down from the race.

The announcement came just days after Tinubu backed Hamzat as the preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Lagos. Adediran’s withdrawal is seen as part of efforts to align with that decision.
Before stepping down, Jandor had been one of the active aspirants preparing for the election, engaging with supporters and party stakeholders. His Lagos4Lagos Movement had also played a role in mobilising political support within the state.
With his exit from the race, attention is now expected to shift to other aspirants and how the political landscape in Lagos will shape up ahead of the 2027 election.
