S’Court verdict: Natasha urges PDP leaders to reconcile

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, on Friday in Abuja urged leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to settle their differences and work together following the recent Supreme Court decision affecting the party’s leadership. She made the call through a statement issued by her media aide, Mike Idoko, as tensions continue within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Her appeal comes at a time when disagreements within the PDP have deepened due to different views over court rulings and leadership issues. She warned that wrong interpretations of the Supreme Court judgment have added to the confusion among party members and the public.

The lawmaker explained that the judgment only nullified the party’s convention held in Ibadan and did not address other matters being circulated in political discussions. She clarified that the issue concerning the suspension of the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, was not part of what the apex court decided.

She also gave details of earlier events, stating that the Court of Appeal had upheld a one-month suspension placed on Anyanwu and three others during a National Working Committee meeting in November 2025, and that the suspension ended in December of the same year.

After that period, the affected officials were included in a caretaker committee formed to manage party affairs and prepare for the March 2026 convention.

According to her, the outcome of that convention still stands and the party’s current leadership is already reflected on the records of the Independent National Electoral Commission. Despite the ongoing disputes, she expressed confidence that the PDP would still participate fully in the 2027 elections and perform well.

Her statement comes as party members continue to deal with legal issues, leadership struggles and internal restructuring, all of which have shaped the current state of the PDP ahead of the next general elections.
