Former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said he is holding talks with leaders of the National Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party as he considers his political direction ahead of the next elections. He made this known on Saturday through a statement shared on his social media account.
Kwankwaso explained that no final decision has been reached regarding his future or that of his supporters. He noted that the consultations are part of efforts to review the current situation within the African Democratic Congress and explore available options.
He pointed to recent court decisions affecting the ADC as a key factor shaping the discussions. According to him, the Supreme Court ruling addressed parts of the party’s leadership issue but returned some matters to the Federal High Court, leaving uncertainty within the party. He also referred to another court decision that affected the party’s convention, as well as moves linked to its registration status.
Kwankwaso said these developments have created challenges similar to those that earlier led him and his associates to leave the New Nigeria People’s Party. In response, he said he has begun wider consultations with different political groups, including the National Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party, to determine the most suitable path.
On the issue of the 2027 presidential election, he stated that he has not declared interest in contesting and has not endorsed any candidate. He added that discussions about presidential tickets within the ADC have not yet been concluded, making current claims about his ambition premature.
He also explained that his absence from recent party meetings was due to personal reasons which had already been communicated to party leaders. He added that once a clear decision is reached, it will be made known through official channels.
