Kano NDC delays congress over membership surge

The Kano State chapter of the National Democratic Congress has postponed its planned state congress for the election of party executives, following a rise in new members joining the party in the state.
The decision was announced on Monday in Kano through a statement issued by the party’s social media director in the state.

The State Chairman, Husaini Isah Mai Riga, explained that the change became necessary after the party recorded an increase in the number of notable figures entering its fold.

He said the development requires more time to properly organise the process and ensure that both old and new members are fully involved in the congress. According to him, the party wants to create room for proper planning so that the exercise can be carried out without issues.

The chairman added that the postponement would allow the party to make the needed arrangements and include all stakeholders before conducting the congress. He noted that the move is aimed at ensuring a smooth process when the election of executives eventually takes place.

He also said a fresh date for the congress would be announced once preparations are completed and the party is ready to proceed.

The development comes as the party continues to attract new members in Kano, a situation that has affected its initial plans and forced adjustments to its timetable.
