Abiodun Endorses Yayi for Ogun Governorship

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun on Thursday presented Senator Olamilekan Adeola as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election in the state. The governor also backed Senator Shuaib Salisu for another term in the Senate.

The endorsement took place during a meeting with party leaders and stakeholders held at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium on Thursday. Abiodun said the party reached the decision after consultations across the three senatorial districts in the state.

The governor explained that party members in Ogun East and Ogun West had earlier supported the arrangement and it was now the turn of Ogun Central to align with the decision. He said Adeola was considered suitable for the position because of his political experience and years of service in different legislative offices.

Abiodun stated that the APC adopted the consensus method to avoid internal crisis and ensure the emergence of candidates accepted by party members across the state. He added that the leadership of the party wanted a peaceful primary process ahead of the 2027 elections.

The governor described the process as one that had attracted attention beyond Ogun State, saying other states were already watching how the party was handling its internal affairs. He urged party members to remain united and avoid actions that could create division during the election period.

He also said the state had continued to record economic growth because of the support received from residents and party loyalists. According to him, maintaining peace within the party would help the APC retain power in the state during the next election cycle.

At the gathering, Abiodun publicly presented Salisu as the preferred APC candidate for Ogun Central Senatorial District in 2027. The governor described the senator as a loyal and dependable political ally who had served closely with him as Chief of Staff before moving to the Senate.

He said Salisu had remained committed to public service and was expected to continue his legislative work if returned to office. The governor also expressed confidence that the senator would improve on his current performance.
