Osun Poll: Accord Raises Alarm Over Alleged Rigging Plan

In a statement issued by its Chairman in Osun State, Pastor Victor Akande, the Accord Party alleged that it uncovered information about a meeting reportedly held by APC leaders concerning the forthcoming governorship election.

The party claimed the meeting was organised to discuss ways of removing selected voters from the electoral register in different polling units across the state.

Accord further alleged that a committee was formed during the meeting to work with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State.

According to the party, the alleged plan involved deleting names of some Accord members from polling units while also removing a smaller number of APC members to make the exercise appear like a technical problem.

The party also claimed that the operation would be carried out through the ICT department of the electoral body and alleged that preparations for the process were already ongoing. Accord warned that any attempt to interfere with the voters’ register could affect the credibility of the governorship election.

Pastor Akande called on INEC to remain neutral and ensure that the voters’ register remains free from political interference. He also appealed to residents and political stakeholders in the state to remain watchful as preparations for the election continue.

Reacting to the allegation, the APC in Osun State dismissed the claims and described them as false and misleading. In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party denied that any APC leader held a secret meeting with INEC officials or directed anyone to tamper with the voters’ register.

The APC also rejected claims linking former governor and party leader, Gboyega Oyetola, to any illegal election arrangement. The party accused Accord of spreading false information because of fear ahead of the governorship poll.

According to the APC, its candidate and party members remain focused on lawful political campaigns and preparations for the election. The party urged members of the public to ignore the allegations and avoid actions that could create tension in the state.

The exchange between both parties comes as political activities continue to increase ahead of the Osun governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
