2027: Sule Defends Endorsement of Preferred Successor

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Friday defended his decision to back a preferred aspirant ahead of the 2027 governorship election, saying he has the legal and democratic right to support any candidate he believes can continue the progress recorded in the state.

The governor spoke during a statewide broadcast in Lafia as political activities continued to gather pace across Nasarawa State ahead of the next general elections.
Sule also announced that the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state would conduct direct primaries to choose its candidates for the 2027 elections.

According to him, the decision followed consultations among party leaders and stakeholders who agreed that all aspirants should be given equal opportunity to test their popularity among party members.

The governor explained that his endorsement of a preferred aspirant would not stop other interested politicians from contesting during the party primaries. He maintained that the direct primary system would provide a fair platform for all contestants and assured party members that the process would be transparent and credible.

Sule said political consultations had already intensified across different political camps in the state as preparations for the elections continued. He appealed to members of the APC, opposition parties, youths and community leaders to avoid actions that could threaten peace and stability in Nasarawa State during the political season.

The governor warned politicians and their supporters against spreading false information, using abusive language or engaging in acts capable of causing tension in communities. He stated that no political ambition should be placed above the peace and unity of the state.

He also urged security agencies to remain neutral and professional before, during and after the elections. Sule advised young people not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to create violence or disrupt political activities in any part of the state.

The governor further said that despite political differences, residents and politicians in Nasarawa State must continue to see themselves as one family working towards the development and progress of the state after the elections are concluded.
