Wike Commends FCT Projects, Backs Chinda for Rivers Governorship

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday expressed satisfaction with the progress of major infrastructure projects across Abuja and declared that many of them were close to completion and ready for commissioning. During the same outing, he also supported the emergence of Hon. Kingsley Chinda as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State.

Wike spoke during an inspection of ongoing projects in different parts of the Federal Capital Territory. He said the level of work done on the projects reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and delivering visible development under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The minister began his inspection at the Renewed Hope City road project in Karsana. According to him, the project had reached an advanced stage and he commended the contractor, Lubriks Construction Company, for maintaining quality and speed in execution.

He also visited the Old Keffi Road and Dei-Dei road projects and noted that most of the major construction work had been completed, while installation of streetlights was ongoing.

At the Airport Road to Kuje Road project being handled by Arab Contractors, Wike described the progress as impressive and said the road would improve movement within the area and create better opportunities for economic activities.

The inspection continued at the Kuje-Gwagwalada road project being executed by Gilmor Engineering Limited. Wike said infrastructure expansion in the area had changed the physical outlook of the community and opened up new opportunities for growth.

He later moved to the City Gate project handled by Julius Berger and said the ongoing work would improve the appearance of the entrance into Abuja. According to him, the project, initiated by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, would give visitors a different experience when entering the capital, especially at night. He added that the contractor had remained within the agreed delivery timeline.

Speaking on politics in Rivers State, Wike endorsed Hon. Kingsley Chinda as the APC governorship candidate and described him as a politician with long experience and a record in both legislative and executive engagements. He said Chinda’s emergence did not come as a surprise because of his political background and public support.

The FCT minister also commented on the withdrawal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the governorship contest. Wike said the governor’s decision aligned with an earlier understanding reached among political stakeholders in the state.

According to him, part of that arrangement included dropping impeachment efforts while avoiding a second-term ambition.

Wike further stated that President Bola Tinubu had intervened on different occasions to promote peace and reduce political tension in Rivers State, including efforts to prevent lawmakers from moving ahead with impeachment proceedings.
