Wike Mocks Aisha Yesufu Over NDC Primary Defeat

On Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, took a swipe at activist and politician Aisha Yesufu over her failure to secure the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial ticket for the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike made the remarks during a luncheon organised for candidates of the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance that has attracted attention in Rivers State ahead of upcoming elections. Addressing party supporters and political stakeholders at the event, the minister questioned Yesufu’s political strength following her defeat in the party’s primary election.

The former Rivers State governor suggested that public commentary and political activism do not automatically translate into electoral success. He argued that while some politicians and activists often dominate media discussions and public debates, elections remain the true test of political support among party members and voters.

Wike referred to Yesufu’s unsuccessful bid for the NDC senatorial ticket in the Federal Capital Territory and used the outcome to challenge what he described as the gap between public visibility and actual political influence.

His comments came amid increasing political activities across the country as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. Several politicians have continued to engage in public exchanges as alliances form and candidates emerge through party primaries.

Yesufu, known for her activism and involvement in national political discussions, recently participated in the NDC primary process but was unable to secure the party’s nomination for the FCT senatorial seat.

Wike’s remarks add to the growing political debate surrounding the 2027 elections, as leading figures across different parties continue to assess the strengths and weaknesses of potential rivals while positioning themselves for future contests.
