2027: Ogun APC Names Adegunwa-Balogun Deputy Governorship Candidate

The Ogun State chapter of the APC has officially selected Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the decision during an emergency meeting of the party’s Strategic Caucus held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta. According to the governor, extensive consultations were carried out before arriving at the choice of Adegunwa-Balogun.

He explained that the party considered geographical balance in making its decision. With the governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, coming from Ogun West, party leaders agreed that the deputy governorship slot should go to Ogun East.

Abiodun said discussions were held across the senatorial district before the party settled on Adegunwa-Balogun, who hails from Ososa in Odogbolu Local Government Area. He added that issues such as fairness, representation and religious harmony also played a role in the selection process.

The governor noted that the party followed a similar process to the one used in producing its governorship candidate and presented the choice to party stakeholders for approval.

Speaking at the meeting, Adeola thanked the governor and party leaders for the manner in which the selection process was handled. He disclosed that 17 individuals had shown interest in becoming the deputy governorship candidate.

According to him, many of the aspirants possessed the qualifications needed for the position, but the party had to settle for one candidate after careful consideration. He also described Adegunwa-Balogun as a capable individual who would contribute to the party’s success in the election.

Adeola further noted that the deputy governorship candidate is the daughter of prominent businessman and Asiwaju of Ijebuland, Sulaiman Adegunwa.

In her remarks, Adegunwa-Balogun expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun, the party leadership and the governorship candidate for the confidence reposed in her. She described her nomination as an opportunity to serve the people of Ogun State and pledged to justify the trust placed in her.

Earlier, Ogun APC Chairman Yemi Sanusi commended the governor for his role in guiding the party through the selection process. He also congratulated candidates who emerged from the party primaries and stated that the meeting was necessary because aspects of the nomination process were still being concluded.

Several top government officials and party leaders attended the gathering, including the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Salako; Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade; Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide; the Secretary to the State Government; and members of the Governor’s Elders Advisory Council.

The meeting further strengthened preparations by the ruling party ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
