Tinubu Commends Wike Over Abuja Projects

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his efforts in carrying out infrastructure projects across Abuja.

The commendation came on Friday during the inauguration of Collector Road CN2, also known as Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard, and other completed road projects in the Katampe District of the Federal Capital Territory.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the event, the President said Wike had met expectations since taking charge of the administration of the nation’s capital. He noted that several abandoned projects had been completed while new developments had transformed different parts of Abuja.

Tinubu said the ongoing projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving the lives of residents through visible development. He added that the installation of solar-powered street lights on major roads has improved security and encouraged more economic and social activities during the night.

According to the President, the newly completed road is another example of the administration’s efforts to provide better infrastructure and improve movement within the city. He stated that such projects are helping to reshape Abuja and create a more functional capital city.

Speaking at the ceremony, Wike explained that the Katampe road project became necessary after authorities discovered a gap in the district’s road network following the completion of nearby roads and bridges. He said the administration moved quickly to address the problem in order to improve connectivity in the area.

The minister also stated that the project has attracted investors and encouraged more property development within the district. According to him, ongoing construction activities across Abuja show growing confidence in the city’s economy.

Wike described infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth and job creation. He said thousands of residents have benefited from projects executed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration in recent months.

He further disclosed that development efforts are not limited to the city centre, adding that rural and satellite communities are also receiving attention through road and other public projects. He pointed to the recently completed road linking Tungan-Madaki communities as part of those efforts.

The minister announced that another major project, a water supply scheme in Karu, is scheduled for commissioning on Monday to improve access to clean water in satellite towns around the capital.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, said the project aligns with the administration’s goal of improving living standards and supporting economic growth through infrastructure development.

Earlier, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, disclosed that the project consists of a 3.9-kilometre road network fitted with drainage systems, water and sewer pipelines, telecommunications ducts, solar-powered street lights, pedestrian walkways and green areas.

Dauda added that the road will improve access between Katampe, Mabushi, Jahi, Maitama and nearby districts while opening up more areas for residential and commercial activities.
