President Bola Tinubu on Thursday formally presented Vice President Kashim Shettima with his certificate as the All Progressives Congress vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election, days after the ruling party confirmed him as Tinubu’s running mate. The presentation took place after months of speculation over whether Shettima would remain on the party’s presidential ticket.
The development became public through a video shared by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada. The footage showed Shettima arriving at the venue before meeting with the President, who later handed him the certificate confirming his nomination as the APC vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Dada, while sharing the video on social media, announced that Tinubu had officially presented the certificate to Shettima following his confirmation as the President’s running mate for the next election.
He also reacted to comments from some social media users who had questioned Shettima’s position in the administration. According to him, there had never been any uncertainty about the Vice President’s place in the government, adding that the rumours were based on assumptions rather than facts.
The presentation followed the APC’s decision on July 10 to retain Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election. The announcement brought an end to months of discussions over the composition of the party’s presidential ticket.
After confirming the Vice President, the ruling party also expressed confidence that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket would seek another term successfully. It proceeded to receive the party’s nomination forms ahead of their submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission within the required timeline.
The formal presentation of the certificate further confirms that Tinubu and Shettima will again contest together on the APC platform in the 2027 presidential election, barring any future changes before the electoral process begins.
