Wike Welcomes Fubara Back, Says There’s No Wrong in Politics

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike said on Tuesday that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara did nothing wrong by returning to his political camp after months of disagreement.

Wike made the remarks in Abuja while inspecting ongoing road projects in the Federal Capital Territory. He said Fubara’s decision to reunite with the political family that brought him into office would help strengthen political cooperation in Rivers State and increase support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid

The minister dismissed claims that Fubara needed forgiveness following their political dispute. According to him, politics is about making decisions that serve the interest of those involved, and there is nothing wrong when a politician decides to return to a former political group after differences have been resolved. He said people should see such a move as part of the normal process of political engagement rather than wrongdoing.

Wike recalled that during one of his previous media engagements, he had predicted that Fubara would eventually return to the political structure that supported his emergence as governor. He said the governor had now publicly confirmed that decision, adding that he and other members of the political family were ready to receive him and work together again for the development of Rivers State.

He also said the renewed relationship would improve efforts to deliver strong electoral support for President Tinubu during the 2027 general election. According to Wike, the reconciliation would allow members of the political family to work together without distractions and focus on future political goals.

Fubara recently announced that he had rejoined Wike’s political camp during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industry project in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

At the event, the governor declared support for the Rainbow Coalition, endorsed President Tinubu’s second-term ambition and encouraged his supporters to back candidates of the coalition. He also said the period of political conflict in the state had ended and called for unity among political stakeholders.

Speaking on infrastructure development in the FCT, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the ISEX Road Corridor and the Apo-Karshi Road projects. He said contractors handling the projects had assured the administration that the roads would be ready for commissioning by December if funding continued as planned.

The minister added that his administration would continue completing projects inherited from previous governments instead of abandoning them. He said responsible leadership requires continuity, especially on projects that improve transportation, support economic activities and benefit residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, the government will continue meeting its obligations to contractors to ensure the projects are delivered on schedule.
