REA: Fayose meets Power Minister ahead of board inauguration

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, is scheduled to be inaugurated on Friday as the Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The inauguration will take place at 10 a.m. at the Ministry of Power headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, following his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

Ahead of the ceremony, Fayose met with the Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, in Abuja on Thursday. The meeting focused on discussions about the agency’s responsibilities and ways to improve its performance in delivering electricity projects to communities across the country.

President Tinubu recently approved the appointment of Fayose to lead the REA board as part of efforts to strengthen the agency’s leadership. The board also includes Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors.

The current Director-General of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, together with the agency’s three serving executive directors, will continue as members of the board.

The REA is responsible for expanding electricity access to rural and underserved communities through various electrification projects. The new board is expected to provide policy direction and support the agency’s efforts to improve electricity supply in different parts of the country.

Speaking after his meeting with the minister, Fayose said their discussions were productive and focused on improving the effectiveness of the agency. The meeting formed part of preparations for the official inauguration, which will formally usher in the new board as it begins its assignment.
