Osun Poll: APGA Candidate Steps Down, Backs Oyebamiji

The All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, has withdrawn from the race and declared his support for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Adeyemi-Doro announced his decision on Saturday in Osogbo during an APC campaign programme focused on engaging young people in the state.

The APGA candidate said his decision followed consultations with the party’s leadership and members across Osun State. He explained that the discussions led to an agreement to work with the APC candidate ahead of the election.

According to him, the decision was based on a shared political direction and the belief that members of both parties could work together toward the development of Osun State.

Oyebamiji welcomed the endorsement and thanked Adeyemi-Doro for choosing to support his candidacy. He also indicated that his campaign would continue discussions with other political parties in an effort to broaden support before the election.

The APC candidate said the support from APGA would contribute to his campaign as he seeks to defeat the incumbent administration and take over the leadership of the state.

The event also provided an opportunity for Oyebamiji to interact with young people, students and members of civil society organisations. The organisers said the discussion was designed to allow participants to ask questions about issues affecting their communities.

Among the issues raised at the engagement were education, employment, opportunities for entrepreneurs, support for artisans and professionals, community development and the participation of young people in government decisions.

The APC campaign team encouraged participants, including those who do not belong to the party, to assess the candidates based on their plans and policies for the state.

Adeyemi-Doro’s withdrawal adds a new development to the political contest, with the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party remaining among the leading contenders in the election.

The election is scheduled for August 15, when voters across Osun State will choose the next governor.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has cleared 14 political parties to participate in the governorship election. The PDP is fielding incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, while the APC is presenting Oyebamiji as its candidate.

With the APGA candidate now backing the APC, attention will shift to whether the move will translate into additional votes for Oyebamiji as the parties make their final push ahead of polling day.
