Osun Election: Adeleke’s Campaign Council Demands Senator Fadahunsi’s Arrest

The Imole Campaign Council has called for the arrest and prosecution of Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged threats against members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

The campaign council made the demand on Tuesday through a statement signed by its Chairman of Media and Publicity, Bamidele Salam.

The call followed the circulation of a video in which Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, was allegedly heard making statements against Accord supporters in Ijeshaland.

The council said the video had caused concern among its members, alleging that the senator encouraged supporters of the All Progressives Congress to confront Accord members in communities across the area.

It further alleged that the video was consistent with reports it had received about the alleged movement of suspected thugs, hoodlums and individuals impersonating security officers into Ilase, the senator’s hometown, as well as other communities in Ijeshaland.

According to the council, the areas mentioned include Obokun, Oriade, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East and Atakumosa West Local Government Areas.
The campaign council accused Fadahunsi of making statements capable of putting Accord members and their families at risk.

It also alleged that he referred to federal security forces while discussing plans to stop some Accord supporters from voting during the election, even when they had valid Permanent Voter Cards.

TICC said the allegations were more worrying because Fadahunsi is a serving member of the National Assembly and is expected to respect the laws of the country.

The council therefore appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services to investigate the allegations, arrest the senator if found culpable and prosecute him in line with the law.

It also asked security agencies deployed for the August 15 election to pay close attention to Ijeshaland and ensure the safety of voters, political party supporters and other residents.

The campaign council further called for an investigation into allegations that armed individuals and persons posing as police officers had been brought into Ilase and other parts of the area.

TICC also raised concerns about the alleged activities of the Intelligence Response Team in Ijeshaland. The council claimed that an aide to Fadahunsi, identified as ASP Wemimo, had led members of the team to the residences of some Accord leaders in recent weeks.

The council further alleged that its House of Representatives candidate, Alaba Popoola, was taken away by the team on the senator’s alleged instruction and remained in police custody.

TICC said it would hold Fadahunsi responsible for any violence involving Accord members in Ijeshaland and other parts of Osun State.

The council, however, urged its supporters and residents to remain calm, avoid violence and participate peacefully in Saturday’s governorship election.
