2027: Adeleke backs Tinubu Re-election, declares him son of Osun

Adeleke backs Tinubu for 2027
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has renewed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing the President as a son of Osun State.

Adeleke made this known in Osogbo on Sunday during a press conference following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.

The governor praised Tinubu for his role in ensuring that the election was allowed to take place without interference, saying the President’s support helped the democratic process in the state.

Adeleke had previously declared his support for Tinubu’s 2027 ambition, despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party at the time. He later left the PDP and contested the 2026 Osun governorship election under the Accord Party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the election at about 7:24am on Sunday.
The State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, announced that Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 local government areas. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress finished third with 17,180 votes.

The victory gives Adeleke another term as governor after he first won the position in 2022 on the PDP platform. His move to the Accord Party came ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Following his declaration as winner, Adeleke also acknowledged Tinubu’s congratulatory call and expressed appreciation to the President.

The governor said he expected Oyebamiji, his main opponent in the election, to also reach out and congratulate him, stressing that the election should not create lasting division among the people of Osun.

Adeleke’s renewed backing of Tinubu comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue to gather momentum across the country.
