Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has said the 2027 general election will be his final attempt to become President of Nigeria.
Atiku made the disclosure during a live session on Facebook while discussing his political plans and the forthcoming presidential election.
The former vice president, who has sought the presidency several times over the years, said he would not contest the office again after 2027, regardless of the outcome of the election.
Atiku, who served as vice president between 1999 and 2007, has contested presidential elections under different political platforms. His latest bid will be under the ADC, which has positioned itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 election.
During the session, he also repeated his allegations concerning President Bola Tinubu’s academic records. Atiku claimed that there had been forgery involving the President’s educational certificates and said he remained convinced about his earlier position on the matter.
He said the academic qualifications of anyone seeking or occupying the highest political office in the country should be free from unresolved questions.
Atiku explained that he had previously raised concerns over Tinubu’s academic credentials and maintained that the matter deserved proper attention.
The allegation comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Atiku and other opposition figures preparing to challenge Tinubu, who is expected to seek another term under the All Progressives Congress.
Atiku’s decision to describe 2027 as his final presidential contest also marks a new phase in his long political career, which has included several attempts to lead Nigeria at the federal level.
