The All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected Abayomi Hunye’s claim to the party’s governorship ticket in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 election, saying Senator Adeola Olamilekan remains its recognised candidate.
The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made the position known on Monday in Abuja while responding to Hunye’s recent claim concerning the party’s governorship ticket.
Basiru said Hunye was no longer in good standing with the APC, explaining that the former aspirant had been suspended from the party on April 7, 2026.
According to the national secretary, the suspension followed a petition from Hunye’s ward in Ipokia Local Government Area and was later approved by the Ogun State Working Committee before being communicated to the party’s national leadership.
The APC leadership accused Hunye of taking actions that could damage the party’s image, engaging in activities against the party and creating division among its members.
The party therefore rejected his recent claim to the 2027 governorship ticket, describing it as unauthorised and capable of misleading members of the public.
Basiru said the APC had already conducted its governorship primary election in Ogun State, through which Adeola Olamilekan emerged as the party’s candidate.
He added that Adeola would contest the election alongside his running mate, Balogun Abiodun, whose name was also submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The national secretary further said the details of the two candidates had been uploaded on the INEC portal and that official acknowledgement had been received from the electoral body.
The development comes amid growing political activity in Ogun State as parties and their candidates prepare for the 2027 governorship election.
Hunye had recently maintained that the issue surrounding the APC governorship ticket was still being challenged through legal channels. His position has added another layer to the disagreement over the party’s candidate for the election.
However, the APC leadership said Hunye had no authority to present himself or act on behalf of the party while under suspension.
The party also warned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political dealings with Hunye in the name of the APC, saying such transactions would not be its responsibility.
The APC urged its members and supporters in Ogun State to remain calm and avoid actions that could worsen the disagreement within the party.
The party further advised anyone seeking clarification on its official position or candidates to contact its national secretariat for accurate information.
With the 2027 election approaching, the dispute over the Ogun APC ticket is expected to remain a major issue as the party works to maintain unity ahead of the poll.
