Again, TCN Announces Fresh Blackout in Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced a fresh power outage in parts of Abuja on Wednesday following a fault that affected a major transformer at the Apo transmission substation.

The company disclosed this in a public notice issued on Wednesday, explaining that a 100MVA transformer at the Apo 132kV/33kV Substation had tripped in the early hours of the day.

TCN said the incident was linked to oil leakage from the red-phase high-voltage bushing of the transformer. The fault caused the shutdown of four 33kV feeders connected to the substation.

The affected feeders are identified as H31, H33, H35 and H37.

The company said its maintenance team had begun a detailed assessment of the transformer to determine the precise cause of the fault and identify the repairs required to return the equipment to service.

TCN said restoration of electricity would commence after the necessary repairs had been completed and the transformer was brought back into operation.

Following the incident, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed that several areas of the Federal Capital Territory were experiencing power cuts.

Areas affected include Apo Legislative Quarters, Lokogoma, Apo Resettlement and other parts of Abuja supplied by the affected feeders.

The latest outage comes shortly after TCN announced another blackout in parts of the Federal Capital Territory due to scheduled maintenance work.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are therefore facing another interruption to electricity supply as engineers work to resolve the transformer fault and restore normal power distribution.

TCN’s maintenance team is expected to continue working on the affected equipment until the problem is fully addressed and electricity supply can resume to the affected areas.
