2027: APC Chairman Yilwatda Begins Two-Week Vacation Ahead of Elections

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has started a two-week vacation outside Nigeria as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The vacation was disclosed by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy, in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Yilwatda embarked on the break after a busy first year in office marked by extensive party activities, meetings, consultations, travels and strategic engagements.

The vacation is expected to give the APC chairman time to rest, regain energy and assess the responsibilities before him as the party moves towards the 2027 elections.

Since taking over as national chairman, Yilwatda has worked with the National Working Committee, APC governors, members of the National Assembly, state party leaders, elected officials and other stakeholders to strengthen the party and improve coordination within its structures.

The statement said the party had recorded several developments during his tenure, including the successful conduct of its National Convention, efforts to reinforce party structures and the completion of primary elections at different levels ahead of the 2027 polls.

The APC described these developments as important steps in consolidating the party’s position within Nigeria’s political space and strengthening its organisational structure.

The party also clarified that Yilwatda’s vacation should not be viewed as a withdrawal from his responsibilities.

Rather, the break is intended to allow him to temporarily step away from the demands of his daily schedule, regain strength and consider the tasks that await the party in the coming months.

The APC chairman is expected to use the period to review the party’s next phase of development and complete preparations for an upcoming retreat of the National Working Committee.

The retreat is expected to bring members of the NWC together to assess the party’s progress, examine new challenges and develop strategies for the period leading to the 2027 elections.

It will also provide an opportunity to improve cooperation among members of the committee and strengthen the party’s preparations for what is expected to be a highly competitive election season.

The statement explained that leadership of a major political organisation requires not only constant involvement in party activities but also time for reflection, planning and renewal.

It further stated that Yilwatda remains committed to the APC and its goals despite his temporary absence from the country.

The party also assured members that his vacation would not disrupt its operations, noting that the National Working Committee would continue to perform its duties in line with the APC constitution and established procedures.

Yilwatda’s two-week absence comes at a period of increasing political activity, with parties beginning to position themselves and strengthen their structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
