Obi disclosed this during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, saying the arrangement would allow his team to receive and monitor results directly from polling units as votes are counted and recorded.

The former Anambra State governor said the proposed system would work alongside the official result transmission process of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to him, the plan is to ensure that results recorded at polling units are transmitted through another channel to his team’s situation room while the same results are being sent through the official INEC platform.

Obi said the proposed arrangement would not amount to creating a parallel electoral system, despite plans to have more systems connected to the INEC Result Viewing Portal across the country.

He explained that his main concern was to have an independent mechanism capable of receiving the actual results from polling units and comparing them with the figures eventually released through the official process.

The NDC candidate said other political groups and organisations could also adopt similar monitoring arrangements during the election. He maintained that such systems could make it harder for election results that did not originate from polling units to be presented as genuine results.

Obi further stated that the process of counting, recording and transmitting votes must be properly monitored at every polling unit to promote confidence in the outcome of the election.

He also said Nigeria could achieve a transparent electoral process, pointing to Ghana and other countries as examples of places where election results can be properly monitored and verified.

Speaking on the 2027 presidential contest, Obi described the election as a broader struggle involving Nigerians and the government rather than a contest based only on political parties.

He said the focus should be on ensuring that the votes cast by Nigerians are accurately recorded and that the final results reflect what happened at the polling units.
