ADC Condemns Kaduna Attack, Warns Against Political Thuggery

The African Democratic Congress has condemned the attack on its supporters in Kaduna State, calling on security agencies to investigate the incident and prosecute those responsible ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party made its position known on Thursday through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, following an attack on its members during a solidarity walk in Kaduna on Wednesday.

The supporters were taking part in the walk organised in support of the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Isa Ashiru, when suspected political thugs reportedly attacked them.

The ADC described the incident as a worrying development, particularly as political activities for the 2027 elections are beginning to gather momentum across the country.

The party urged security agencies to identify those who carried out the attack and also investigate anyone who may have sponsored or organised the incident.

It also called on the Kaduna State Government to provide adequate security for opposition parties and their supporters as political activities increase across the state.

The ADC said political violence must not be allowed to become part of the electoral process, warning that allowing thuggery to continue could create an atmosphere in which political disagreements are settled through violence instead of democratic competition.

The party said its commitment to peaceful participation in the political process should not be mistaken for weakness or fear. It maintained that it would continue to organise and campaign despite the incident.

The ADC also expressed support for Ashiru and other members who were affected by the attack, assuring them that the party would remain active across Kaduna State.

The party maintained that Kaduna belongs to all its residents and should remain open to every political group to campaign and seek the support of voters.

It further stated that intimidation would not stop its activities in the state, as it plans to continue engaging voters and presenting its political programmes ahead of the 2027 election.

The ADC said the election should be decided through ideas, campaigns and votes at polling units rather than through attacks, intimidation or political thuggery.

The party’s reaction comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 elections, with more campaign and mobilisation activities expected to take place in Kaduna and other parts of the country.
