2027: PDP Ends Accord Alliance in Osun, Backs Fadeyi

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State has ended its electoral arrangement with the Accord Party and declared its readiness to begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The National Treasurer of the PDP, Diran Odeyemi, disclosed this on Friday in Osogbo, Osun State, while speaking on the party’s plans for the forthcoming elections.

Odeyemi said the understanding between the PDP and Accord was limited to the August 15 governorship election and came to an end after Governor Ademola Adeleke secured re-election on the Accord platform.

According to him, the PDP had during the governorship election deployed its political structure and members across the state to support Adeleke’s return to office.

With the arrangement now over, Odeyemi said the PDP had moved ahead with its plans for the 2027 elections and would support its own candidates across the state.

He also confirmed that Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla remains the PDP candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 election.

Odeyemi called on PDP members and supporters in the district to begin mobilising support for Fadeyi as the party prepares for the campaign season.

He explained that the decision was a party matter and was not based on any personal disagreement with Gani Olaoluwa, the Accord candidate for Osun Central. Odeyemi described Olaoluwa as a close friend but said the PDP was now focused on its own candidates and political interests.

The development follows Fadeyi’s recent return to the PDP after leaving the All Progressives Congress, APC. The lawmaker had previously represented Osun Central in the Senate on the APC platform.

Fadeyi recently confirmed that he had rejoined the PDP and informed the Senate of his decision. He also stated that he would contest the 2027 Senate election under the PDP and had already secured the party’s ticket for Osun Central.

In explaining his decision to leave the APC, Fadeyi pointed to the conduct of the party’s 2027 National Assembly primary for Osun Central. He had raised concerns about the process before deciding to return to the PDP.

The PDP’s latest position means the party will no longer operate under its previous electoral understanding with Accord in Osun State as the 2027 general election approaches. The party is now preparing to campaign for its candidates, including Fadeyi, across the state.
