NLC Declares Indefinite Strike in Delta Over Worker’s Death

The Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has declared an indefinite strike across the state following the death of Unity Adedah, a deputy director with the Ministry of Secondary Education.

The state NLC chairman, Goodluck Oforbruku, announced the industrial action on Friday while addressing protesting civil servants at the Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba.

The deceased was reportedly attacked inside the secretariat after thugs allegedly tied him up and assaulted him. The attackers were said to have acted on the alleged instruction of the Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have triggered anger among workers, who demanded action over the death of their colleague.

Following the protest, the NLC leadership announced that workers in the state would remain on strike indefinitely. The union said the action was in response to the incident and the concerns raised by workers over their safety at the secretariat.

The shutdown of the secretariat affected normal government activities in Asaba as civil servants joined the protest following the death of the deputy director.
