Former Edo State governor and ex–All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan not to contest the 2027 presidential election, saying such a move could harm the reputation he built after leaving office.

Oshiomhole, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said that any call for Jonathan to return to power was not in his best interest. According to him, those urging the former president to re-enter politics are not his true supporters, as the APC would easily defeat him again if he decided to contest.

The senator noted that Jonathan’s decision to concede defeat in 2015 earned him respect both at home and abroad, and that he should focus on maintaining his status as a respected statesman rather than returning to active politics.

He described Jonathan’s post-presidency conduct as peaceful and exemplary, urging him to preserve that image instead of risking his legacy with another presidential bid.
Oshiomhole also pointed out that Jonathan’s political influence in the South-South region had waned since his exit from office, saying it would be difficult for him to regain the strong support he once enjoyed.
He maintained that the political landscape had shifted, and the APC was now stronger in regions where Jonathan once held sway.Jonathan, who led Nigeria from 2010 to 2015 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lost to the late Muhammadu Buhari of the APC in the 2015 general election.
