Gunmen in the early hours of Thursday abducted a former ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State. The victim, Alhaji Abubakar Sabi Sise, who is also known in the area as a major trader, was taken away from his home after armed men invaded his compound around midnight.
Residents said the attackers arrived shooting into the air to frighten everyone and gain quick access to the house. One of the victim’s sons, who returned home late, was reportedly stopped by the armed men and forced to call his father. When the victim opened the door, the gunmen entered and took him away, leaving other family members untouched.
At daybreak, empty bullet shells and live rounds were seen around the compound, showing that several shots were fired before the attackers escaped. The incident lasted only a short time, but people in the community described it as terrifying.
Local vigilante members in Boriya were immediately informed and have begun searching nearby areas in hopes of finding the kidnappers and rescuing the victim. As of the time of filing this report, his location remains unknown.
This latest attack is the second kidnapping case in the area in two months. In September, another businessman was taken from his home in the nearby Shiya community.
When contacted, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said he had not yet received details of the incident but promised to investigate the matter.
