Tension has risen in Kano State as a fresh disagreement surfaced within the All Progressives Congress between the party’s state chairman and a serving federal minister over comments linked to the 2027 governorship race. The situation developed in Kano after Abdullahi Abbas, the APC state chairman, reportedly confronted the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Attah, over public remarks seen as interference in party affairs, following reports that the minister openly supported Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau for the governorship ticket.

The disagreement intensified when Abbas sent a formal warning to the minister, stating that such comments could fuel confusion and division within the party. He maintained that decisions and public statements about internal party matters should come only from officially designated party leaders and spokespersons and hinted that continued actions of that nature could attract disciplinary measures.

In response, Attah, through his media aide, explained that his comments were personal political opinions based on his experience and interaction with party members at the grassroots level. He stated that he did not speak on behalf of the party and made it clear that he remains loyal to the APC and President Bola Tinubu. He added that his position was meant to encourage open political discussion ahead of future primaries, not to undermine party leadership or structure.

The minister also advised that internal disagreements should be handled quietly rather than being exposed publicly, especially at a time when the country is facing serious security and political challenges. He maintained that healthy debate within the party is necessary for growth and that his views were shared in good faith to help strengthen the party’s chances in future elections.
