Ex Lawmaker Abiola Joins APC Governorship Race

Mulikat Abiola, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Ifelodun State Constituency, has officially entered the race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket ahead of the August 8, 2026 election. She joins a field of seven aspirants who have collected the party’s nomination forms, including former APC National Secretary Senator Iyiola Omisore, former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority Bola Oyebamiji, and Lagos-based engineer Dideolu Falobi.

Abiola, who served in the state assembly from 2018 to 2023, is the only female candidate to have obtained the APC nomination form. She registered her interest at the party’s national secretariat, citing the underrepresentation of women in politics as her motivation for contesting.

She expressed that her goal is to increase women’s participation in governance and to challenge the longstanding marginalization of women in political leadership. Abiola said her campaign seeks to raise public awareness on the need for women to take leadership roles and to ensure inclusive governance in Osun State.

Despite the competitive field, Abiola remains confident in her ability to secure the APC ticket and ultimately win the governorship election in August 2026. She also stressed her commitment to restoring prominence and influence for women in the political landscape of the state.

Her declaration adds a new dynamic to the Osun APC governorship contest as the party prepares for its primary scheduled for December 13, 2025.
