President Bola Tinubu has set up a new committee to handle internal conflicts within the All Progressives Congress as the ruling party begins early preparations for the 2027 general elections. The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos, following ongoing concerns over disagreements among party members in different parts of the country.
The committee is chaired by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, while a former National Legal Adviser of the APC, Muiz Banire, will serve as the member-secretary. Its membership cuts across key figures in the party, including serving governors, ministers, senators and former office holders.
Among those appointed are governors from Kwara, Imo, Benue, Jigawa, Cross River, Ekiti, Delta, Kaduna and Rivers states, alongside ministers and senior party leaders. The team is expected to consult widely within the party, engage aggrieved members and work out approaches that will help reduce tension and improve unity.
At the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to the President for the confidence placed in the committee. He assured that members would approach the assignment with seriousness and a strong sense of responsibility. He noted that the committee would focus on dialogue, inclusion and practical solutions that would help strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
The setting up of the committee followed President Tinubu’s recent call for unity within the APC during the party’s National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja on December 19. The move is seen as part of efforts to stabilise the party and ensure internal harmony as political activities gradually build up towards 2027.
