Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said he is not joining the African Democratic Congress because he has always been part of it.
Obi explained that he has been a member of the ADC coalition from the very beginning and therefore does not need to formally rejoin the party. He made this clarification while speaking during an online discussion on X on Sunday night.
He said the idea that he was about to newly join the ADC was wrong, stressing that his involvement in the coalition did not start recently. According to him, his role and membership have been in place since the coalition was formed.
Obi also addressed rumours suggesting that other political figures were stepping aside for him within the ADC. He said no such arrangement exists, noting that members of the coalition have agreed to work together without anyone withdrawing for another.
In his remarks, Obi maintained that cooperation remains the goal of the group as it prepares for future political engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.
He further stated that he continues to hold former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in high regard, describing him as a respected leader within the political space.
Obi’s clarification comes amid growing public debate and speculation over possible alliances and movements among opposition figures ahead of the next general elections.
