President Bola Tinubu has delivered his New Year message to Nigerians, detailing the government’s priorities for 2026 and reflecting on the achievements of the previous year. The message focused on economic growth, security, and development across the country.
In his message, Tinubu stated that 2025 was marked by steady economic progress despite global challenges. The administration recorded fiscal improvements, maintained trade surpluses, and achieved greater stability in the exchange rate. Inflation declined to below 15 percent, and GDP grew steadily, demonstrating the positive impact of economic reforms introduced by the government.
Looking ahead to 2026, the President outlined plans to consolidate these gains, with particular attention to further reducing inflation and ensuring that economic benefits reach households nationwide. He also highlighted the role of foreign direct investment, noting a significant rise in FDI in 2025, which reflected growing investor confidence in Nigeria’s economy.
Tinubu also discussed ongoing reforms in taxation, aimed at reducing excessive levies and harmonizing tax systems across states to make the fiscal environment fairer and more productive. He explained that these measures would support investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other social programs that benefit citizens.
On security, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He outlined ongoing military and intelligence operations against criminal and terrorist groups in the Northwest and Northeast and pledged continued collaboration with international partners to maintain national safety. Tinubu also spoke about plans to strengthen decentralized policing and support for security personnel to address challenges more effectively.
The message further noted that 2026 would be a year of active development under the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme. The government aims to create economic opportunities for at least ten million Nigerians through agriculture, trade, mining, and small business empowerment. Infrastructure projects, including roads, power, healthcare, schools, and transport systems, will continue without interruption.
Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to work together for national development, stressing that citizen engagement and patriotism are crucial to achieving collective goals. He urged all Nigerians to uphold integrity, contribute to nation-building, and participate in the democratic process. The President closed his message by wishing all Nigerians peace, prosperity, and safety in 2026, while asking for divine protection for the country and its armed forces.
