The Obidient Movement has made it clear that its loyalty within the African Democratic Congress is solely connected to Peter Obi’s bid for the presidency. The group said it will not back Obi to run as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone under any circumstance.
The clarification followed reports attributed to the National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, suggesting that the group would remain in the ADC even if Obi failed to secure the party’s presidential ticket. Tanko later dismissed those reports, saying they misrepresented the movement’s position and were intended to mislead the public.
According to the movement, its members are united around Obi’s leadership vision and will only align with political platforms that support his presidential ambition. While the group is currently operating within the ADC, it stated that its continued participation depends on the conduct of the party’s presidential selection process.
The movement said it would respect the outcome of the ADC primaries if the process is open and fair. However, it added that if the process is flawed, members would jointly decide on their next steps using lawful and democratic means in line with their guiding principles.
