ADC Says Nigeria Has Lost Its Voice Amid Tinubu Govt’s Silence on Venezuela

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the Nigerian government for its silence on the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by the United States. The party said the lack of response, more than 48 hours after the event, shows Nigeria has lost influence and credibility internationally.ADC pointed to the 2024 Venezuelan elections, widely condemned for irregularities, as an example of how regimes that manipulate elections cannot rely on global protections. The party warned that ignoring such crises signals weakness and moral failure, and that leaders who deny citizens’ rights will eventually be held accountable. The party stated that Nigeria risks losing its standing as Africa’s largest democracy by failing to take a principled stance on international matters. ADC also said that democracy should be more than just elections, and that governments focused on survival over people’s will are exposed on the world stage.
