The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the 2026 registration for the Basic Education Certificate Examination for junior secondary schools across the state.
The registration, which covers both public and private Junior Secondary School students in Lagos, will run from Monday, January 26 to Friday, March 27, 2026. It is being handled by the Lagos State Examinations Board and will be done entirely online, including payment, as part of the state’s move to make examination processes fully digital.
According to the state government, the e-registration system is designed to reduce physical contact between school owners and the examinations board while improving order and proper record keeping during the examination process. The announcement was shared through an official government statement released on Tuesday.
Schools are required to complete the process using newly issued school codes. Public junior secondary schools are expected to download an offline data capturing application from the board’s official website to register their candidates. Private junior secondary schools, centres operating with special approval, and continuing education centres are to use a separate online payment portal to complete registration and generate login details.
The board stated that approved private junior secondary schools and public continuing education centres will pay a fee of ₦10,000 per candidate. Schools operating under special permission and private continuing education centres are to pay ₦15,000 per candidate.
Schools presenting candidates with special needs, such as visual challenges or albinism, have been advised to notify the examinations board early so that proper arrangements can be made before the examination begins. The board also warned that delays in registration may attract penalties, adding that any further instructions will be passed through zonal education officers.
The exercise is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to manage examinations using technology and ensure smoother coordination ahead of the 2026 BECE.
