A senior member of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, has appealed to eligible residents across the state to actively participate in the party’s ongoing electronic registration and membership revalidation exercise.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Ogbonna called on youths and adults aged 18 years and above in all wards of Arochukwu and Ohafia Local Government Areas, as well as other parts of Abia North and the state at large, to register with the ruling party.
He said political participation allows citizens to be involved in democratic processes, benefit from governance and hold elected officials responsible for decisions that affect their daily lives. According to him, joining a political party gives people a voice in shaping leadership choices and public policies.
Ogbonna also appealed to local government officials in Abia North to support party officials handling the registration exercise by mobilising residents to ensure wide participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
He explained that the registration and revalidation exercise is important for determining the actual strength of the party and ensuring that only verified members take part in future party activities and congresses. He noted that the process would decide who qualifies to vote or contest in internal party affairs.
The APC chieftain said the state leadership of the party, led by Dr Kingsley Ononogbu alongside other leaders including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and Hon. Nkeiru Onyejeocha, has put measures in place to focus attention on areas with high turnout.
He added that large participation would give members the opportunity to choose candidates of their preference in future elections and strengthen internal democracy within the party.
Ogbonna praised President Bola Tinubu and the APC national leadership for introducing a digital registration system, saying it would help the party keep accurate records of its members across the country. He encouraged both new and existing members to use the platform to register or update their membership details.
Expressing confidence in the party’s chances, he said the APC is well positioned to improve the welfare of the people and change what he described as the current political situation in Abia North Federal Constituency.
He also expressed satisfaction with the turnout so far at registration centres, describing it as a positive sign ahead of the 2027 elections, and urged party members to continue mobilising others to join and revalidate their membership.
