Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Monday called on all those nursing ambitions to contest the Kano governorship to suspend their plans and rally behind Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ahead of the 2027 election. Ganduje made this call in Kano shortly after Governor Yusuf officially joined the APC at an event held at the Government House.
Ganduje said anyone interested in leading the state should give Governor Yusuf room to complete two terms in office. He noted that the move would help maintain unity within the party and ensure continuity in governance. According to him, the APC leadership in the state believes supporting the sitting governor is the best path forward for Kano.
He also praised Governor Yusuf for leaving his former party to return to the APC, describing the decision as one driven by the interest of the state rather than personal ambition. Ganduje recalled that Yusuf was part of the APC at its formation before leaving due to political disagreements, adding that his return marked a reunion with his political base.
The former party chairman described Yusuf as the current leader of the APC in Kano and said the governor now represents the party’s direction and vision in the state. He urged party members and aspirants to work together to strengthen the APC and support the governor’s administration.
Governor Yusuf’s defection has continued to generate reactions across Kano politics, with party leaders and stakeholders positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
