No Cause for Panic – Turaki-Led PDP Reacts to INEC Meeting Invite

The Peoples Democratic Party has said its members should not panic over a recent meeting invitation issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission, insisting that the situation poses no threat to the party.
The party made this known in a statement released on its official Facebook page on February 5, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong. The statement explained that INEC invited leaders of political parties to a meeting and also reached out to individuals who were once members of the PDP but are now claiming to lead a National Caretaker Committee.
The party stated that its constitution does not provide for such a committee to act or speak on its behalf. It described the invitation as troubling, especially as the leadership dispute is already before the Court of Appeal, but said it would address the matter through legal means.
According to the PDP, INEC should have acted with caution since the issues surrounding the party’s leadership are still under judicial review and could be affected by pending court decisions. The party maintained that the electoral body does not have the authority to decide who leads the PDP.
The opposition party reassured its members across the country to remain calm while the legal process continues. It expressed confidence that the Court of Appeal would soon resolve all matters related to the leadership crisis.
The PDP also restated its commitment to its ongoing internal reform efforts, saying the rebirth movement within the party remains active and steady under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki. The party added that it is confident of overcoming its current challenges as the process unfolds.
