The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Nyesom Wike has set up a caretaker committee to manage the party’s activities in Plateau State as part of efforts to reorganise its internal structure ahead of the 2027 political season.
The decision was made public in a statement issued by Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of the faction’s National Caretaker Working Committee. The statement explained that the committee has the authority to step in and manage state chapters where the need arises until new executives are put in place.
A 13-member caretaker committee was named for Plateau State, with Dr Gideon Nandem Tyem appointed as chairman and Goje A. Hirfo chosen as secretary. The committee is expected to take charge of the party’s affairs in the state and ensure continuity of operations during the transition period.
The statement noted that the move forms part of a broader rebuilding plan aimed at putting the party in shape ahead of future political activities. The caretaker team is tasked with overseeing day-to-day matters and maintaining order within the party structure in the state.
It was also made clear that the caretaker arrangement is temporary. The committee is expected to operate for a period of 30 days or until a new state executive committee is elected, whichever comes first.
According to the statement, the appointments take immediate effect, and the newly named officials are expected to assume their duties as the reorganisation process begins in Plateau State.
