Bayelsa APC Appoints Coordinators, Announces Congress Dates

Governor Douye Diri on Friday inaugurated new coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors across the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State under the All Progressives Congress and announced dates for the party’s ward, local government and state congresses.

The event took place at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party leaders and members.

At the gathering, the governor urged the newly appointed coordinators to begin mobilising members ahead of the scheduled congresses. He confirmed that Chief Tiwei Orunimighe remains the state coordinator of the group.

He also advised the leadership at both state and local government levels to work together and maintain unity within the party structure, while cooperating with the South-South zonal coordinator, Ifeanyi Okowa.

Diri cautioned party members against actions that could divide the party at ward and local government levels. He appealed to those nursing personal political ambitions to set them aside for now and focus on the party’s main objective, which he said is securing the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

According to him, the party must unite behind one common goal as preparations for the next general election continue.

The governor also mentioned that the state would mark its six-year anniversary in a quiet manner due to the recent death of his deputy, noting that the remembrance would be low-key out of respect.

The local government coordinators inaugurated include Kuro Matthias Nyenye for Nembe, Dr. Godson Torukuru for Yenagoa, Uroh Kiani for Brass, Biewari Orupeighe for Southern Ijaw, High Chief Okubokakpo Ombu for Sagbama, Chief Ebinyo Turner for Ogbia, Tonye Isenah for Kolokuma/Opokuma and Orubebe Ogeibiri for Ekeremor.

In addition, committees were set up to oversee the ward congresses in each local government area. Prominent party figures were named to supervise the exercises across Brass, Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe, Ogbia, Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Yenagoa.

The acting state chairman of the APC caretaker committee, Dr. Dennis Otiotio, announced that the party’s national secretariat had released the timetable for the congresses and national convention.

According to the schedule, ward congresses will hold on February 18, local government congresses on February 21, while the state congress is fixed for March 1, 2026.
