2027: PDP BOT Chair Wabara Endorses Otti for Second Term

Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adolphus Wabara, on Thursday in Ohanku-Ndoki, Ukwa-East Local Government Area of Abia State, declared support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party in 2027.

He made this known during the foundation laying ceremony of the Ukwa-East General Hospital, where political leaders and residents gathered.

Wabara, alongside some members of opposition parties in the area, said they were ready to work for Otti’s second term. During the event, he moved a motion endorsing the governor for another tenure, and the motion was seconded by a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Louis Obianyi.

Explaining the decision, Wabara said the support for Otti goes beyond party lines. He stated that many leaders in Ukwa-East and across Abia State were satisfied with the governor’s performance so far. He added that their backing was based on what they described as visible work in the area and across the state.

Leaders from Ukwa-East, joined by former Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okey Emuchay, also used the occasion to call on the governor to revive the Abia Palm Company located in the area. They said reopening the company would create jobs for residents and improve economic activities in the community.

In his address at the ceremony, Governor Otti said that people of Abia State deserve access to quality healthcare services. He stated that his administration is working to ensure that no community in the state is left without proper medical facilities.

The hospital project, according to him, is part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the state.

The event also witnessed a reception organised in honour of the governor by the people of Ukwa-East. During the gathering, some former members of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress who recently left their parties were formally received into the Labour Party.

The development shows growing political realignments in Abia State as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
