NNPP Asks INEC to Obey Court Order on Leadership

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to follow a court ruling that recognises the party’s National Working Committee led by Agbo Major. The appeal was made on Saturday in Lagos through a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi.

The demand follows a judgment delivered by a Federal Capital Territory High Court, where Justice Bello Kawu directed INEC to recognise the leadership headed by Agbo Major. The court also ordered the electoral body to update its records to reflect the recognised leadership within a set timeframe.

According to the party, there should be no delay in carrying out the court’s directive, including updating details on INEC’s official platform. The NNPP expressed concern that the commission was still dealing with another faction led by Ahmed Ajuji despite the ruling.

The party explained that the court had restrained INEC from having any dealings with the Ajuji-led group while a judicial review process was ongoing. It also stated that filing an appeal does not stop the enforcement of a court decision unless a stay of execution is granted, which has not happened in this case.

NNPP further stated that the ruling clearly directed recognition of the Major-led leadership and restoration of the party’s original identity, including its logo. It maintained that compliance with the order is necessary to avoid further confusion within the party.

The party urged its members across the country to remain calm and continue their activities, adding that the outcome of the case strengthens its position ahead of the 2027 elections.

It also clarified that members previously removed for misconduct would remain out, while those who left on their own could return.
