The issue came to light after workers received their February salaries and reported that the amounts deducted did not match the number of days they were absent. Some staff said their pay was drastically reduced, with cases of only receiving a small fraction of their usual salary.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Anambra State intervened, raising the matter with the state government. Officials confirmed that the refunds would be processed for affected workers. TUC leadership also requested that contributions made by workers to the state’s Contributing Pension Scheme be reviewed for any necessary adjustments.
