Osun guber race: APC reacts as APP drags candidate to court over credentials

The Action Peoples Party has taken legal steps against the APC candidate in the upcoming Osun State governorship election, alleging issues with the documents he submitted for his nomination.

The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, lists INEC and the APC as respondents alongside the candidate.

In the suit, the party is asking the court to examine whether the documents used to present Oyebamiji as a candidate meet the requirements of the law. It also wants the court to cancel his nomination and stop INEC from recognizing or dealing with him as a valid candidate for the election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

The party further requested that his name be removed from the list of candidates already released.

The legal action followed claims that the documents submitted do not comply with constitutional provisions guiding eligibility for public office.

The plaintiff is also seeking a court order to prevent any further steps that would allow the candidate to participate in the election.

Reacting to the case, the APC in Osun State dismissed the claims and described the lawsuit as an attempt to distract from the election. The party maintained that its candidate meets all the requirements needed to contest and insisted that there is no basis for the allegations raised.

The APC also stated that the move to challenge its candidate through the court is politically motivated and meant to create confusion ahead of the election. According to the party, it remains confident that its candidate will participate in the election and secure victory.

The case is expected to proceed in court as the election date approaches, adding another layer of tension to the political contest in the state.
