On Friday in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said the Peoples Democratic Party will take part in the 2027 general elections, dismissing claims that the party may not remain active.

He made this known during a media session where he spoke about the party’s future and current challenges. According to him, despite losing the presidency since 2015, the PDP has continued to exist and operate across different levels of government.

Wike explained that the focus of the party should not be limited to winning the presidency alone but should include strengthening its presence at state and local levels. He said political parties must build solid structures across the country to remain competitive during elections.

He also noted that presenting a presidential candidate requires proper preparation, adding that political contests go beyond interest and require readiness in many areas. He warned that a party cannot expect strong national success if it fails to maintain control and influence at lower levels.
The minister’s remarks come at a time when the PDP is dealing with internal disagreements that began in 2025. Different groups within the party have been holding separate meetings and taking legal steps to assert control, raising concerns about unity ahead of the next general elections.
Despite these issues, Wike maintained that the party will still appear on the ballot and take part in the electoral process, while efforts continue to keep it active and competitive across the country.
