In Abuja on Tuesday, a windstorm that followed heavy rainfall damaged parts of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in the Nyanya area, affecting nearby structures and raising concern among residents and commuters.
The incident occurred a few hours after a downpour, with strong winds tearing through sections of the terminal. The storm also caused minor damage to the pedestrian bridge in Nyanya and some surrounding buildings within the area.
Early reports from authorities indicated that no lives were lost and no vehicles were affected during the incident. Officials said the situation was brought under control shortly after the storm subsided.
Following the development, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ordered the deployment of security personnel to the location. The move is aimed at maintaining order and ensuring that movement around the area is not disrupted.
The minister also directed that urgent steps be taken to repair the damaged facilities. Relevant agencies are expected to assess the level of destruction and begin necessary work to restore affected structures.
Authorities added that the response is part of efforts to keep public spaces safe and ensure normal activities resume without delay after the weather incident.
