Tinubu didn’t back Adeleke for re-election — APC lawmakers

Five lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress from Osun State said on Sunday in Osogbo that President Bola Tinubu has not supported Governor Ademola Adeleke for the upcoming governorship election, explaining that claims of any endorsement are false and how such reports have misled members of the public.

The lawmakers, who spoke as a group within the National Assembly, said there was no agreement between the President and the governor regarding the August 15 poll. They stated that the only known meeting between both sides was a social visit during the Sallah period in Lagos involving Adeleke’s family, and not a political discussion.

According to them, reports suggesting that the President had backed Adeleke’s re-election bid were not correct and should be ignored. They added that at no time during their own meetings with the President was there any discussion about supporting the Osun governor.

The lawmakers also addressed claims circulating among political groups, noting that such information was being spread to create confusion among voters. They insisted that the APC remains focused on its own candidate in the state and is working toward winning the election.

They further stated that it would not make sense for the President to support a candidate outside his party when the APC has a strong contender in the race. The group pointed out that party members should remain committed and not be distracted by rumours or political speculation.

The lawmakers urged residents of Osun State to continue supporting the APC candidate, adding that the party is confident of victory. They also assured that the state stands to benefit more from alignment with the federal government if the APC wins the governorship seat.

They concluded by encouraging party supporters to stay united and focused ahead of the election, stating that past voting patterns and current political strength in the state give them confidence about future outcomes.
